A Chemical Reaction Materials :Plastic cup, 2 small cups 30mL, news paper, laytex gloves, liquid b, liquid A, paper towel , goggles.
Procedure:1place 30 ML of liquid A in plastic cup. 2 Place a paper towel or news paper. 3 Add 30 ML of liquid b to the plastic cup. 4 gently swirl. 5 Make observations according to handout.
Hypothyis:I think the two liquids will mix and form a foam material.
Observations: 1 the two liquids do mot mix easily 2 the two liquids mix to make a gray colored liquid 3 the texture starts to bubble 4 the foam starts to rise faster and faster 5 the foam popps and plautos out 6 the plastic cup heats up beacuse of the endothermic reaction that is occuring 7 the texture of the foam becomes sticky 8 the middle of the cilinder is hallow
backround exothermic reaction:A chemical reaction that releases heat . polyurethane:: any of various partially crystalline lightweight thermoplastics (CH2CH2)x that are resistant to chemicals and moisture, have good insulating properties, and are used especially in packaging and insulation
analysis yes my hypotheyis was right the two chemicals foarmed a foam.the evidence of a chemical reaction in this expariments was the heating up of the outside of the plastic cup.No i do not think that it would be possible to measuere the volume or mass of the product from just the amount of liquids you put in the cup.i think this would noy be possible because their are to many veriable in the equasion like heat, moisture, sunlight,or elevation.
conclusion this lab was the observation of the chemicalt that make polyurithane.im realy enjoyed this lab beacuse of the sence of not knowing what was going to happen.i would do this lab again.i had a lot of fun and hope we do more labs in the future.but i want to know the two chemicals in the liquids that created the heat in the exparement.
